I am a lycos mail user since 90’s, before they bought over mailcity. It was my main free email account until GMAIL appeared.

Not long ago, I received an email from the lycos mail team, saying they will be upgrading the accounts starting june - 26 june. The exisiting 5MB accounts will be upgraded to an ample 3GB accounts. In the email, they said the upgrading process is automatic one, nothing we need to do, just wait.

Chee bye. So I wait lah!! wait until 1st of July… kanneh why my account havent become 3GB one? still 5MB? diu!

As usual (like wad we did to get 250MB hotmail account), I update my profile to a US address, US zip code, city, etc.

And today, when I login, teng teng teng teng! it’s upgraded to 3GB, new interface, more space!

@@

Don’t throw anything away.
Over 2741.221578 megabytes (and counting) 3GB (3072 megabytes) of free storage so you’ll never need to delete another message.

@@

A true 3GB!

Another thing, you can send up to 20MB of attachment with the upgraded account.

@@

The new interface allows you to drag and drop the files in your computer! You don’t have to browse at all.

But hor, Im not sure whether they will downgrade it in future or not, cos they DID before, I remember once they offering 6MB of space, then suddenly increased to 20MB (20MB consider alot in many years back), then they downgrade it to 5MB until now.

Anyway, if you’re into illegal mp3 and video clip, you may give it a try.

Gmail for your domain

Posted by cy on Jun-29-2006

This is a pretty cool product from Gmail, this special beta test lets you use Google’s webmail service on your own domain name.

For details click here

I apply to test their service about 3 weeks ago, and I just receive a reply from them yesterday that they accepted my domain name chingyih.com to join their tester programme.

@@

I like google because it’s simple. KNN even their email oso so short and brief, nothing inside.

After login, I follow their instruction to setup my account, and route my domain name chingyih.com’s MX record to their server (google mail server). And today I login, the account already start working.

@@

Very simple control panel, not much function you can play around, perhaps it’s still beta.

And now I can create up to 25 email addresses e.g. anything@chingyih.com, with 2GB of space on each account, with google talk & calendar feature for every account.

I created myself a i@chingyih.com, login, and the control panel is exactly the same with Gmail account. I also replaced the Gmail logo with my own logo..

@@

For my free account, I can create up to 25 email addresses.. but I believe I should be able to create more than 25 accounts with additional cost after they officially launched the service for the public. Im not sure how many accounts other testers allowed to create, but when I apply, I just put there ‘personal use’ only. It can really saves me a lot of disk space so I dun have to host my email on my server.

Google actually targetted this service on organisation, but if you’re running a small/medium business with less than 25 staff, will you consider this service (to let them host your email)? hmm… what do you think? All your company’s emails (and accompanying data) are belong to Google..

But hor… Microsoft has this in beta as well. http://ideas.live.com/ it’s called the Windows Live Custom Domains..

Google Talk (Beta)

Posted by cy on Feb-16-2006

I actually oso very hairan why I din post any of the CNY photos. Actually I wanted to post one, cos all the photos in my home laptop, while I usually blog in the office during office hour which everyone bz working and meeting and I blogging. Another reason is because I usually blogging during office hour so sometimes I very bz working and no time to think about it.

Yesterday I tried a new software called Google Talk, a very light software, less than 1MB, you can visit their website http://www.google.com/talk/ for more info and download it.

I actually like that software because it is really small in size, won’t cause your computer lag or high load. But of course, their interface is very simple, less function, which is different with YM and MSN with plenty of entertainment and useful function.

You need a Gmail account to use this software. Actually it is a software for ppl to communicate via talking (like skype which I never use before). However it has a IM function as well, you can chat with your frens if you dun have a sweet voice.

^^

You may notice there’s a ‘Chats’ folder appeared in your Gmail account. The ‘Chats’ in your Gmail is cool, since you’ve a huge space in your Gmail account, you can always save your conversation history in your Gmail account instead of your hard drive, in my opinion, it is better to save the conversation history online because it’s more secure as only you will access your Gmail account. At the navigation column, you can also see who is online in the ‘Quick Contacts’.

^^

Basically this is the Google Talk window, very simple.. there’s no ads.. as for now.

^^

As usual, you will see notification for new email received in your Gmail account.

I din try out the talking function because I dun have a mic in office. If got mic oso cannot la cos boss is just sitting beside me :P

You may give this beta version a try, the requirement is you must have a Gmail account. No ads, no pop up, with basic function, fast & smooth, but no fancy function like drawing a kukuciao for your friend.
